Jamia Masjid in Mandya district of Karnataka is being claimed to be the first temple. Several Hindu groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), maintain that the mosque was built by demolishing an ancient Hanuman temple. After this argument of Hindu organizations, the officials of the mosque have also appealed to the government for protection.

Four demands of Hindu side…

  • FIR should be registered against those who have destroyed Hindu symbols inside the mosque.
  • Madrasa and cooking in the mosque should be stopped.
  • A video survey should be done inside the mosque by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
  • Hindus should be allowed to worship inside the monument.

Action taken on Hindu group for protesting
The Hindu group had said that they would worship in the mosque on June 4, about which the authorities alerted and imposed Section 144 in the city on June 3. Even after this, people did not agree, on Saturday more than 100 workers of VHP and Bajrang Dal demonstrated at Jamia Masjid. After this the police took everyone into custody.

Hindus said – action should be taken against those who occupied
After the action on the activists, Shri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik said that it is not right to stop the protesters. Those who have captured should be stopped. Action should be taken against those who offer Namaz here.

The dispute started on 20 May
The controversy over the mosque started on May 20. VHP and Bajrang Dal had submitted a memorandum to the collector demanding that the survey should be conducted in Jamia Masjid like Gyanvapi Masjid. Which will confirm its being a temple. Hindu groups claim that there was a Hanuman temple at the site of the mosque, which was demolished and a mosque was built on it.

Former Chief Minister’s claim – the existence of the temple was true
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal leader HD Kumaraswamy has also joined the claim. They say that the existence of the temple was true. Similarly in Goa also the Portuguese destroyed temples and built churches. Also said that let’s see what the government documents tell.
