Controversy in The Hundred League, Nepal player was asked to leave the country

Ahead of the launch of The Hundred, a massive controversy erupted on Tuesday when Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane was asked to leave England after his visa ran into trouble. According to reports, his visa has been deemed invalid and hence, he was asked to leave the country.

The Hundred is an England 100-ball cricket league consisting of eight men’s and women’s teams from different cities in England and Wales.

Lamichhane was slated to don the Oval Invincible’s jersey at The Hundred and was already in quarantine and in the bio-secure bubble, but she will no longer be able to take part in the competition that will take place on Wednesday between the Oval Invisibles for women. Following the developments, the leg-spinner claimed in a Facebook post that he had followed all the prescribed procedures as mandated by the England and Wales Cricket Board and was disappointed to miss the tournament.

He wrote, ‘I am so sad to miss The Hundred. I was very keen to play for my team Oval Invincible and followed all the instructions given to me by the ECB officials.

The leg-spinner said that he had come to the UK on July 9 and did not face any hurdles at the immigration desk. He then moved to a government-managed quarantine facility to complete his mandatory isolation period.

He further wrote, “I am asking what went wrong but apparently no one in the ECB has the right answer. I can completely understand that things can go south at any time, however, I have less At least need a clear answer as to why my valid visa is no longer valid.

The ECB has not given any public reaction to its action. Lamichhane has been a prolific bowler in the T20 format and plays all over the world. He has taken 138 wickets in 101 matches at a strike rate of 15.90 and an economy rate of 6.86.
