Shivamogga (Karnataka), April 14 | Contractor and BJP leader Santosh K. Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa, implicated in Patil’s suicide, announced his resignation on Thursday.

“I have worked as RDPR minister till now under the leadership of CM (Basavaraj) Bommai in the government. I have decided to resign on Friday evening. I don’t want to embarrass my party and party leadership.

Eshwarappa said that he had earlier decided to tender his resignation, but was stopped by his colleagues. “If I have committed any mistake, then God punish me. I am sure that I will be acquitted of the charges in the contractor suicide case.”

Patil, who committed suicide by consuming poison, blamed Eshwarappa directly for his death and alleged that the minister had sought 40 per cent commission through his associates in the Rs 4 crore project.

Congress has called for an indefinite strike to demand Eshwarappa’s resignation and arrest.
