The ordinance comes a week after the Supreme Court handed over control of services in the national capital to the Delhi government

The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday hit out at the Center for bringing an ordinance to set up the National Capital Civil Services Authority for transfer of Group-A officers of DANICS cadre and disciplinary proceedings against them, calling it “contempt of court”.

The ordinance comes a week after the Supreme Court handed over control of services in the national capital to the Delhi government.

Cabinet minister Atishi said the Centre’s ordinance was a “clear case of contempt of court”.

He said, ‘Modi government has gone against the unanimous decision of the constitution bench of the Supreme Court. The SC had directed that the elected government should be given the right to take decisions on its own, independently, according to the principles of democracy. But the Centre’s ordinance is a reflection of the shameless failure of the Modi government. The only aim of the Center to bring this ordinance is to take away the powers from the Kejriwal government.

Alleging that the Center did not care about the people’s mandate or the apex court’s direction, she said it would sideline the elected government in Delhi.

“It is clear that the Modi government is scared of CM Arvind Kejriwal. We strongly condemn this cowardly act of the Centre.

Expressing similar views, cabinet minister and AAP’s chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said the Center had “betrayed” the people of Delhi.

“This has never happened in the history of the country. This is a betrayal of the Supreme Court and the people of Delhi, who have elected Kejriwal three times as Chief Minister. He does not have any power, but the LG, who is not even elected but imposed on the people, will have powers and through him the center will keep an eye on what is happening in Delhi. This is contempt of court,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet ministers alleged that the Center was plotting to bring an ordinance to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision.
