New Delhi: In its first direct attack on Amarinder Singh After leaving the top position in Punjab, ns Congress On Friday, accused the former Chief Minister of being close to BJP leaders.
It alleged that Amarinder was not working to implement the party’s election promises, including punishing those guilty of sacrilege.
Responding to Amarinder’s allegation that he was “humiliated” by the party, Congress’s central observer in Punjab Harish Rawat He said that no such report has come in which the former Chief Minister has been insulted.
Rawat said, “There is no fact in the reports that the state Captain Amarinder Singh was insulted by the Congress. From the recent statements of the Captain it appears that he is under some kind of pressure. He should reconsider, and directly or Should not help BJP indirectly.”
Elaborating on the party’s vision, Rawat said that before the 2017 Punjab elections, the Congress had promised that the perpetrators of sacrilege, no matter how high and powerful, would be punished.
“Unfortunately, the High Court rejected the state government’s stand as the matter was not properly placed before it,” Rawat said.
He claimed that the sentiments of many people, including MLAs, have been hurt by this failure.
Rawat said the Congress leadership had constituted a three-member committee to look into the issues related to the state.
The panel, after consulting several stakeholders, suggested an 18-point plan that included proper handling of the sacrilege issue and curbing the drug menace.
Rawat said that he had also personally met Amarinder Singh to take action on these points. However, there was a sense of concern among the legislators that these points were not being implemented seriously, he said.
Earlier, Captain Amarinder Singh had created a storm by resigning as the Chief Minister of the state. Singh had claimed that he was humiliated and claimed that he was leaving the Congress but keeping his political options open.
He also had a long meeting with BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah earlier this week. However, the Captain has admitted that he was not joining the BJP.
