Congress will ‘fall’ if Gandhi continues to lead it, says Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the Congress “will go down and not even be visible in the panchayat polls” if the Gandhi-Nehru family continues to lead the oldest party. Convenor of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), he said it was for the Congress to decide whether it wanted to revive its losing trend with the Gandhi family or continue.

Sarma had joined BJP from Congress in 2015. “Continuous defeat in elections has proved that Gandhi cannot lead the Congress to victory,” he told reporters.

“Therefore, in my view, the Gandhi family will take the Congress to a position where it will not be visible even in the panchayat elections in the coming days,” he said. The chief minister said it was up to the Congress to decide whether to go up or “go down with the Gandhis”.
