Congress’ Rawat Admits to Holding Political Discussions with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar

People close to Rawat said that this meeting has been held to strengthen the opposition unity in view of preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat said on Thursday that he held political discussions with the Chief Minister of Bihar. Nitish Kumar in Patna, but declined to comment on whether he was sent on a special mission by the party high command.

Sharing a photograph of Wednesday evening’s meeting with Kumar on Twitter, Rawat wrote, “Mr Nitish Kumar, strong voice of opposition unity in 2024…” However, when asked about the meeting, Rawat said Kumar are old friends and they had traveled. Patna to appreciate their good works.

“He is our old friend. He is doing good work and it is everyone’s responsibility to salute the good work.”

Rawat, a former chief minister of Uttarakhand, admitted that political discussions had taken place between the two leaders.

“We are not saints. When political people meet, there is bound to be a political conversation.”

Rawat, however, declined to comment when asked whether the party high command had sent him to Patna on any special mission.

The meeting of the two leaders is being seen as a sequel to the recent talks between Kumar and Rahul Gandhi.

People close to Rawat told that this meeting was held to strengthen opposition unity in view of the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
