Congress on black poster controversy: ‘Don’t support anything that hurts anyone’

New Delhi: Outrightly rejecting the posters of ‘Kali’ which created a ruckus on social media, the Congress on Tuesday said that every religion should be respected. Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said, ‘We respect all the deities of all religions and do not support anything that hurts anyone.

He said it suits the BJP when there is a dispute so that the government does not have to answer questions on GST and other issues.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has registered an FIR against director Leena Manimekalai, a day after a complaint was filed against her over the controversial poster of her new documentary.

The poster was shared by Manimekalai on social media on July 2. The poster shows Goddess ‘Kali Maa’ smoking a cigarette.

The poster created a massive ruckus on social media and started trending on Twitter demanding arrest of the director. The documentary revolves around the events that take place one evening, when the goddess ‘Kali’ appears and walks the streets of Toronto.

On Monday, the Indian High Commission in Canada also urged the organizers to withdraw all inflammatory material related to the ‘Kaali’ documentary.
