Congress Crisis: Another fight awaits for the Gandhi family? Members demand change in party leadership

New Delhi: While the Congress is facing a crisis after the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh from the post of Chief Minister of Punjab, the demand for change of Congress leadership is being seen again. Expressing the need for a permanent Congress president, senior party leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday stressed that there is a need to put more energy into the organizational structure of the party.

According to an ANI report, the Congress MP spoke to reporters and said, “Sonia Gandhi’s leadership is the leadership we all love. Many people have called for a permanent president. In the last two years we have had a permanent president.” There was no president. We need to generate more energy in the organizational structure of the Congress party. We all want Congress to get a permanent president. No one will speak against Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi is a leader who made us so good. She has led the way. But she has also been saying for years that she wishes to step down.”

He further said that if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is willing to return to the leadership role of the party, it needs to happen soon.

Meanwhile, the Congress’ social media department on Saturday passed a resolution to make Rahul Gandhi the party president at the earliest, saying his leadership will bring new energy to the party cadre.

The resolution was passed unanimously in the “Drishti 2021” meeting of the National Executive of the Department of Social Media.

This comes after similar resolutions were passed in the national executive meetings of the Indian Youth Congress, NSUI and Congress SC/ST Department.

However, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid spoke on the issue and said, “We already have a party president, so we don’t need any other party president and we are satisfied. It seems that people from outside (Congress) is not satisfied.”
