Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Sunday that the Congress is considering a yatra from Pasighat to Porbandar.

‘Different format from Bharat Jodo Yatra’

Ramesh told PTI that possibly an east-west yatra from Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh to Porbandar in Gujarat is being considered but the format may be slightly different from the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

“There is a lot of enthusiasm and energy. I personally also feel it is needed but the format of travel from East to West may be different from the format of travel from South to North India.

The senior party leader asserted that there was a lot of enthusiasm and energy among party workers for another yatra after the nearly 4,000-km Kanyakumari-to-Kashmir yatra, which was undertaken by Gandhi and others from September last year to January this year. was done till ,

‘The number of passengers may be less’

Ramesh said the planned Yatra may not have the elaborate infrastructure that was mobilized for the Bharat Jodo Yatra and may have fewer passengers.

He said that it would be largely a padyatra but the route had forests and rivers. “It will be a multi-modal yatra, but mostly it will be a padayatra,” Ramesh said.

Karnataka Election Connection

Ramesh further said that with elections in Karnataka in April, rains in June and then elections in the state in November, the yatra could be started before June or before November.

Ramesh also said that the yatra would be of shorter duration than the Bharat Jodo Yatra. “All this will be decided in the next few weeks,” he said.

Addressing the Congress convention, Gandhi said that the party should draw up a new plan to carry forward the “penance” done through the Bharat Jodo Yatra and that it would be held across the country, hinting at another such initiative. Will participate with.
