The LDF won 14 of the 28 local body wards in the bypolls, while the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) got eight.

The LDF got four seats less than in 2021 and the UDF made a remarkable comeback by winning eight seats, two more than the last election.

The BJP-led NDA got two seats, one more than last time, while independent candidates won four wards across the state.

Bypolls were held for 28 local body wards in 12 districts on Tuesday and 97 candidates were in the fray.

State Election The commission said in a release that the LDF got 14 seats, of which the CPI(M) got 11, the CPI two and the Kerala Congress (M) one.

In the 2021 elections, there were 18 seats for the LDF, six for the UDF, one for the NDA, while three for independent candidates.

Reacting to the results, Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan said that people have now sent a message to the arrogance of the Left government.

“We will bring down all Leftist forts in the state. We snatched six seats from LDF. It is a recognition of the opposition’s fight against the Left government.”

BJP state president K Surendran said his party has increased its vote share and wrested one seat from the LDF. The CPI(M) was yet to respond.
