AISU has written to the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Education, requesting them to conduct NEET twice a year.

Students-led organization All India Students’ Union (AISU) has once again raised the demand for conducting the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET-UG) twice a year. AISU has written to the National Medical Commission (NMC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and Ministry of Education with the request.

Many NEET UG applicants and their teachers demand two attempts. If the request is granted, the students will get ample time and opportunity to prepare for the biggest single medical entrance exam in India.

The candidates are taking to social media to put forth their demands and are using hashtags like #NEETUG2NDATTEMPT.

“Today we have sent a representation to NMC, Ministry of Education, MoHFW on behalf of NEET UG candidates. Hope our request for #NEETUG2NDATTEMPT will be considered. It will be a great relief to all NEET UG candidates. #NEETUG. ” AISU wrote on Twitter.

AISU believes that this decision will help in improving the chances of admission, save academic year of the candidates and also provide an opportunity for preparation.

AISU wrote in the letter, ‘There are many shortcomings in the current system of conducting NEET UG only once a year. First, it puts immense pressure on students to perform well in a single attempt. Secondly, it is unfair to those students who do not perform well due to various reasons like ill health, personal emergency or lack of sufficient time for preparation. Third, it leads to high levels of stress and anxiety among students, which affects their mental health.

“Conducting NEET twice a year will be a great relief for candidates who do not get a seat in the first attempt. They can use the other one and won’t have to wait a whole year. This will be very beneficial for the border students as they will be able to score good marks and get a good college,” the letter further read.
