Concern in England camp after COVID-19 case, says women’s captain Heather Knight Cricket News – Times of India

I’m nervous England Women’s camp after a member of their support staff tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of multi-format Ashes series Australia, captain heather knight Said on Friday.
England have to play three Twenty20 Internationals against Australia, starting from January 20 Adelaide, This will be followed by a standalone test canberra Three One Day Internationals from January 27-30 and from February 3-8.
The staff member who tests positive will be put in isolation in Canberra while the rest of the group will travel to Adelaide before the first T20 match. Another round of testing will be carried out before the team takes off for South Australia next week.
“We were prepared for it,” Knight told reporters. “I think it would be very naive to think that we will not be affected by this (virus), but there are concerns and concerns from the group.
“Ever since we arrived, we have had to live under very strict protocols, we have only been allowed to socialize outside for this reason, to try and limit the spread.
“It’s going to be a terrifying 24-48 hours, but the PCR tests we’ve already done have all come back negative… we’ve had to ‘stay safe’ in the UK for two weeks, pretty much before Christmas, Just to get out of here. It’s been a huge effort.”
After successfully controlling the virus earlier in the pandemic, Australia has recorded nearly one million cases in the past two weeks.
Knight said the series lead was “quite average”, with the England team only allowed two weeks of individual training before arriving in Australia.
“As you can imagine, it’s very comical and not even ideal preparation for a series of this magnitude, but it’s completely unavoidable,” she said.
