According to an official statement, the NCMC-compliant digital ticketing solution will enable public transport in Delhi to move away from manual ticketing, starting with buses.

Delhi Government will soon provide National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) compliant digital ticketing solution in all its buses operated by Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).

According to an official statement, the NCMC-compliant digital ticketing solution will enable public transport in Delhi to move away from manual ticketing, starting with buses.

The Delhi Transport Department on Sunday issued a notice inviting e-tender for this.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently flagged off 50 new electric buses, taking the total number of buses plying in the city to 7,379.

The digital ticketing solution is also part of the route rationalization study being conducted by the Department of Transport, whose pilot phase has been underway since October last year.

The tender floated by the Transport Department involves supply and commissioning of Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) for 7,500 buses in Phase 1. Apart from this, it also includes provision of smart card or NCMC card for purchasing tickets instead of cash payment.

The details of the tender can be seen on the e-procurement portal of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi https://govtprocurement.delhi.gov.in. The last date for submission of bids is February 20.

NCMC cards provide the facility of offline payment for multi-modal transit. The vision of the Delhi government is to have a connected network of transport in the city. The Airport Line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is already NCMC-compliant, while the rest of the lines are targeted to be NCMC-compliant by June 2023.

This means commuters will be able to buy their bus tickets and also use the same card to travel on the Delhi Metro. More and more transit options will be added in the coming years to make travel more convenient.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said in a statement, “We wanted to completely move away from the existing manual ticketing where origin and destination are not being captured at all. want to enable a system to know whether the next bus to arrive is 100 per cent full or partially full.”

“Also, the NCMC enabled solution will help them use a single card for multi modal transit systems starting with bus and metro rail. Gehlot said, to make Delhi a world-class city, the idea is to develop all modes of public transport in the city.
