Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday condemned actor Siddharth’s remarks against badminton player Saina Nehwal, saying such remarks reflect the “hateful mentality” of the person.
Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach during his recent Punjab visit, Saina had tweeted, “No nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own Prime Minister is compromised. I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists.
In response, Siddharth had tweeted, ‘Thank God we have the saviors of India, the world’s micro rooster champion.
Taking a dig at Siddharth, Rijiju said that India is proud of Nehwal for his outstanding contribution in making India a sports superpower.
He wrote on Twitter, “Apart from being an Olympic medalist, he is a steadfast patriot. Making a cheap comment on such an icon personality shows the lowly mentality of a person.”
Following severe criticism on social media for the tweet, Sidharth said there was “nothing derogatory”.
