Commander-in-Chief of Manipur’s insurgent organization KNF arrested from Dwarka

The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Monday arrested the self-styled commander-in-chief of Manipur-based insurgent group Kuki National Front (KNF) from the national capital.

According to Delhi Police officials, the self-styled commander-in-chief was arrested from Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 7. The arrested KNF commander has been identified as Mangholam Keegen alias David, who was arrested in an operation conducted by the Special Cell on specific intelligence inputs.

“David is the head of the KNF, which is notorious for ransom, kidnapping, dacoity, extortion and snatching of weapons from security forces and other criminal activities in Manipur,” said a senior officer of the Special Cell.

According to inputs received from Manipur Police, David along with his cadres abducted police constables from Kangwai police post located in Churachandpur district of Manipur in December last. “David and his cadres snatched the INSAS rifles from the police constable. Manipur Police had arrested eight of his accomplices involved in the crime, but he was evading arrest,” said a Delhi Police official.

Manipur Police was also on the lookout for David for kidnapping a Nepalese national Tikram Rizal from Kalapahar in Churachandpur. The Nepali national was released only after paying a hefty ransom to the KNF. The Manipur Police had arrested two of David’s associates involved in the incident.

During interrogation, the Special Cell came to know that the KNF Commander-in-Chief is a Class 7 dropout. “He joined the militant outfit after coming in contact with local KNF cadres and leaders and rose to the rank of Commander-in-Chief in a very short span of time.”

David’s special cell has learned that he was in Delhi to identify senior employees of construction companies engaged in the construction of roads and other government projects. “He along with other workers of his organization was planning to kidnap some employees of construction companies to demand ransom,” a senior Delhi Police official said.
