Comedian Munawwar Farooqui removed from Gurgaon show after BJP leader’s complaint

New Delhi: Noted stand-up comedian Munawwar Farooqui has been dropped from the three-day show, which will be held in Gurugram later this month, after a complaint was filed against him by BJP Haryana unit’s IT department chief Arun Yadav. Went.

Munawwar Farooqui was among the actors who were to perform at the Gurgaon Comedy Festival on December 17-19.

BJP leader Arun Yadav tweeted the police complaint lodged by him, saying, “We will not allow this traitor’s show to take place in Gurgaon under any circumstances. Jai Shri Ram.” Arun Yadav, in his complaint, said that the activities of the comedian “have hurt the Hindu faith”. “This has been done deliberately to incite communal disharmony,” he added.

In the past few months, several shows of Munawwar Farooqui, who spent a month in Indore jail for allegedly insulting Hindu deities during an event, have been canceled following alleged threats by right-wing groups. These include shows in Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Mumbai and Bangalore.

‘Hate won, artist lost’

Last month, Farooqui’s comedy show in Bengaluru was canceled after police cited law and order issues. Angered by the verdict, Munawwar Farooqui expressed his dismay, saying “hate wins, an artist loses” and called it “injustice”.

He tweeted, “My name is Munawwar Farooqui. And that’s my time, you guys were (a) amazing spectators. Goodbye, my work is done.”
