Pakistani politician Maryam Nawaz Sharif shared a picture of her father Nawaz Sharif on Twitter, prompting speculation that he may return to the country. Nawaz Sharif, convicted in corruption cases related to Avenfield properties and Al-Azizia Steel Mills, is currently in London and has been living there since 2019.

Maryam, who is the vice-president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML(N)), also tweeted several photos earlier this week, which showed helpful messages for the former prime minister of Pakistan.

People familiar with developments told CNN-News18 that Pakistan’s military – which is influential in designing the country’s foreign as well as domestic policy – is seeking the ouster of current Prime Minister Imran Khan. The current prime minister, according to CNN-News18, is not in favor of the Pakistani military and has lost popularity among people thanks to rising corruption as well as the rise of hardliners like Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

People familiar with the developments also told CNN-News18 that Imran Khan is presented with two options – resign on his own before November 20, or bring in-house changes to Pakistan’s parliament by Pakistan’s opposition. Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is also on the verge of losing two of its allies- Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q). CNN-News18 was also told that PTI’s Parvez Khattak and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz)’s Shahbaz Sharif are the front-runners for the post of Prime Minister of Pakistan.

“I am like a comeback kid….You can’t keep me down for long,” Maryam tweeted along with a picture of her father. Earlier on Monday, Maryam carried two rickshaws with a poster of Nawaz Sharif He tweeted pictures of him, one with a quote, which was briefly translated from Saraiki language – “Oh dear come back. Need you” and another that read – “Nawaz Sharif, we want old Pakistan back.”

Nawaz Sharif to serve multiple jail terms for his role (7 years) in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case and for owning assets disproportionate to his known sources of income (10 years) and not cooperating with the investigation against him (1 year).
