Collaboration detox, less buzz, and staggering times to mark a great return to the office

Making great returns. But when information technology workers are back in their physical offices over the next few months, it’s going to be a changed world of work, with fewer coworkers as people work staggered shifts. The configuration of the desk will also be completely changed.

IT companies are in the process of re-evaluating workplaces. Dedicated space will begin to shrink, making way for people to come in rotational shifts and at different times. The new devices will feature a hybrid physical working (physical and digital) model.

“Staff will be back in the same premises but will feel the change as the focus will be on physical distancing and personal hygiene. Not all associates will be seen in the office all the time,” said Sameer Bendre, chief people officer at Persistent Systems.

“Even though you are in the office, digital collaboration will remain the default collaboration, especially for teamwork. If organizations have multiple locations, employees will be able to work from facilities near them,” he said.

Personal ‘Focused Time’

With the number of people attending the firms office, physical meetings will have to wait some more time for collaboration.

“Employees are likely to need a collaboration detox. Previously, people had to be encouraged to cooperate, now focused time and productive collaboration time will be given equal importance,” Bendre said.

Bharani Kumar Arol, president of the Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association, said there would be less discussion. “100 percent of employees will be back in the office, but only 50 percent of the time,” he said.

“Big companies may ask their employees to come to the office 2-3 days a week,” he said.

“Organizations have learned to allocate, supervise and reward work in a remote fashion. They are better equipped to classify roles suitable for remote work and manage them effectively,” she said.

“The result will be a new dynamic when people come back to the offices.

“I expect everyone to be more data driven, agile, transparent and collaborative in the post-pandemic era,” she said.
