Cold wave across North India: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted the return of cold wave conditions in several parts of north India along with the national capital for the next two days.

Meteorologists have predicted a drop of 3 degree Celsius in the temperature for today and tomorrow in the Delhi-NCR region. The meteorological department said that the temperature will be recorded at 4 degree Celsius on January 18, which has failed to provide minor respite to Delhiites from the cold wave conditions.

Notably, the IMD has predicted dense fog layer and low visibility over the northwestern part of the country for the next five days.

Trains running late due to fog

Indian Railways on Monday informed that 13 trains were running late in Northern Railway zone due to fog. Trains like Darbhanga-New Delhi Clone Special (02569), Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi Express (12397) are running late by 1 hour 30 minutes, while Jaynagar-Amritsar Clone Special (04651) is running late by 8 hours.

Which areas in North India are expected to face cold wave conditions?

Meanwhile, in North India, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely in many parts of Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi till January 17 and thereafter at isolated places on January 18.

In view of the severe cold, the district administration in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur decided to close schools till January 17, and the district administration in Meerut passed the same order, but till class 8. And the Union Territory of Chandigarh has also extended the winter vacation. For students up to class VIII keeping in view the severe cold and fog in the region.

The Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during the next five days. The IMD has predicted that the temperature is likely to drop by 2-4 degree Celsius over northwest and adjoining central India during the next two days.
