Cochin University of Science and Technology leads in research rankings | Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

Kochi: Cochin University of Science and Technology (QSAT), winning the Chancellor’s Award for Best University, has been cited as the top among nine premier universities Kerala.
According to QS World University Ranking 2021, QSAT has 111 scientists who have more than 500 citations. Of these, 50 have been included in the top list of the university, all of which have an H index greater than 13 and 39 of the faculty have a Hindex of more than 15.
Interestingly, a good number of these ratings are from young and mid-level teachers who are largely assistant professors. In terms of the number of scientists in the Faculty, Kerala University 37, Calicut 33 and MG University 21. The numbers are comparatively less in new universities like Kufos, yeast and Kalam Technical University.
The Academic Scientific Index is calculated on the basis of seven papers per faculty member, which is . is indexed on Scopus Eight citations per paper indexed on Scopus in the most recent five-year period or the most recent six-year period. According to QSAT officials, for 2017-2021 figures, around 2,400 papers were published with 8,625 citations. “Each of these rankings has a different methodology, but much of it depends on data available in a public place. Most of the agencies involved in the rankings take data from the websites of the universities. They also check individual profiles uploaded by academicians and institutions in different platforms,” said Baby Chakrapani, director, Center for Science-in-Society (C-SiS), Cochin University.
Data shows that younger faculty have been more enthusiastic and updating their publications in their own Google Scholar profiles or other professional websites.
