CNG price hike: Delhi sees 5 hike in April, Mumbai witnesses 3; Why is it growing?

CNG prices have seen a steady rise across India, especially in major metro cities including New Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Delhi

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the prices of compressed natural gas or CNG by up to five times in April alone. on Monday. Issuing a notification, IGL said that the price of CNG in Delhi has been increased by Rs 2.5 per kg to Rs 71.61 per kg with effect from Thursday, April 14. In New Delhi, the CNG price currently stands at Rs 71.61 per kg, while the CNG price for Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad has gone up to Rs 74.17 per kg. This comes after the hike in CNG prices last week, when it was hiked for two consecutive days. On April 1 and April also, IGL hiked CNG prices due to higher energy prices.

Mumbai

Within a week of the steep hike in the retail price of CNG and PNG, Mumbai’s gas utility announced a further hike of Rs 5 per kg and Rs 4.50 in the prices of these fuels, effective Tuesday midnight, in input prices. Citing the huge increase. Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) had earlier increased the retail price of auto fuel CNG by Rs 7 per kg. MGL had on March 31 reduced the retail prices of CNG by Rs 6 per kg and for PNG by Rs 3.50, when the state government reduced VAT on these fuels to 3 per cent from 13.5 per cent with effect from April 1. On 6 April, there was an increase in MGL. The prices of these fuels have increased by Rs 7 and Rs 5, respectively. Thus there were three CNG price hikes in Mumbai alone in April.

Gujarat

Ahmedabad and other cities in Gujarat are also bearing the brunt of rising CNG prices in the state as the state utility company announced a steep hike in prices twice within the first two weeks of April. According to a notification, on April 6, Gujarat Gas increased CNG rates by Rs 6.5 per kg to Rs 76.98. In another update, the company increased the price of CNG by Rs 2.58 per kg to Rs 79.56 per kg with effect from Thursday, April 14, taking the total increment in April to two.
