CM Shivraj Chauhan warns colleague for making statement on ‘upper caste women’

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan on Sunday said he has warned his colleague for making a controversial statement about “upper caste women”.

According to PTI, tribal leader and minister Bisahulal Singh, while addressing a gathering in Anuppur district of the state on Wednesday, spoke about women and their work in the background of social strata.

Big guys like Thakur, Thakar and others confine their women to homes and don’t let them go out to do household chores.”

Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan issued a statement on Sunday saying, “I had just called up Bisahulal Singh ji. He has publicly apologized for his statement. Whatever the sentiment, the message should not be wrong. Every word should speak carefully. I have warned. That such statements should not be made under any circumstances.”

Chouhan further said that expressing such sentiments sends a wrong message to the people, it will not be condoned, whoever it is, adding that “respect of mother, sister and daughter for BJP, its government and me.” is paramount.” ,

Later, State BJP President VD Sharma also apologized, calling the statement of the tribal leader unfortunate.

Sharma told reporters, “It is unfortunate. It should not have happened. If the sentiments of any section of the society have been hurt by his (Bishulal Singh’s) statement, then as the party’s state president, I will join the party. I apologize to you.”

Bisahulal Singh, who had earlier apologised, issued a video apology later that day.

His statement had angered the Shri Rajput Karni Sena, which had burnt an effigy of the minister on Friday and surrounded his car on Saturday showing him black flags.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh, a Thakur, condemned the statement, incidentally a one-time loyalist of former father and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh.

Bisahulal Singh, who was with the Congress, had joined the BJP last year.
