Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai presented the state budget 2022-23 during the budget session in Bengaluru.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday floated the idea of ​​building ‘four new Bangalores around Bengaluru’ and six integrated cities in Karnataka. Noting that Bengaluru’s population will grow from the current 13 million to about three to 40 million in 2040, Bommai said the city should be developed like a planet surrounded by satellites.

“Bengaluru, according to me, should be like a planet with rail, road, hi-tech travel system and easy means of transport for travelers as well as satellite cities,” Bommai said during Bengaluru 2040. The summit, which was organized by Deccan Herald. Elaborating further, he said that there is a need to build infrastructure to connect Bengaluru and develop a ‘new Bengaluru’.

The Chief Minister said, “At least four new Bengalurus are to be built around Bengaluru and in between these four, we can have different types of activities such as health cities and integrated industrial townships, which include industries related to aerospace and defence. are,” the Chief Minister said. According to him, these satellite towns will have all the facilities.

Bommai said the time has come for Bengaluru to go vertical as the city has grown enough horizontally and new localities have been added.

Introducing a new slogan ‘Nava Karnataka Dinda Nav Bharat’ (New India through New Karnataka), Bommai said he is planning six new integrated sites in the state.

Noting that he has introduced several new proposals and schemes in the state budget which were missing in the previous budget, the chief minister said: “One of the new things I am planning is to build six new cities in the state. Integrate these. Townships will be done. They will be the model for building cities in a planned manner.”

The Chief Minister told the gathering that his government would set up six Institutes of Technology in Karnataka on the lines of Indian Institutes of Technology for students who cannot enter these premier institutes. Bommai also told the audience that he plans to ‘unlock’ the land for poor people to keep their homes.

With regard to the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project on the Cauvery river, which is opposed by the low-lying state of Tamil Nadu, Bommai said his government was working on it. “We will soon prepare the DPR and the process of environment clearance will be started. That’s why I have kept the money (Rs 1,000 crore in the budget of 2022-23). I am sure we will start the Mekedatu project this year. Once this is done, a long-term plan can be made for Bengaluru,” he said.
