Delhi Police has arrested an 18-year-old man from Lucknow in connection with a chat on the Clubhouse app in which objectionable and derogatory remarks were made against women, officials said on Saturday. Police said a team was sent to Lucknow and the 18-year-old, who had registered himself with the user-id ‘Bismillah’ on the app, was nabbed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police KPS Malhotra said the man claims that he created an audio chat room at the clubhouse on the instructions of a man, identified as ‘Sallos’.

The official said Kishor also told the team that he had handed over the chat room’s moderator keys to ‘Sallos’. Police said the 18-year-old’s mobile phone has been confiscated and he will join the investigation in Delhi by evening.

Notably, the Cyber ​​Cell of Mumbai Police has also arrested three men from Haryana in the same case after a woman lodged a complaint in Mumbai.

Earlier this week, on January 17, a video of a clubhouse conversation on the topic ‘Muslim girls are more beautiful than Hindu girls’ went viral on social media. In the said conversation, participants were reportedly heard making obscene, obscene and derogatory remarks targeting Muslim women and girls.

Then the next day on Tuesday, January 18, taking suo motu cognizance of the issue, the Delhi Commission for Women issued a notice to the Cyber ​​Cell of Delhi Police, seeking immediate registration of FIR and punitive action against the alleged persons.

Then an FIR was registered under section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, caste, place of birth, residence, language etc. and doing prejudicial acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intention) was done. Insulting religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and section 354A (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage its modesty) of the Indian Penal Code in the Special Cell Police Station.
