During the heat wave conditions, the maximum temperature in the city and neighborhood was recorded around 40 degree Celsius.

With the temperature dipping, schools in West Bengal resumed in-person classes on Monday after closing the campuses for a week due to extreme heat conditions.

An official of the school education department said that the situation has improved with the onset of rains, adding that the advisory for closure of schools is not being taken forward.

The state government’s notification dated April 16 said, “Due to heat wave conditions…all autonomous/state/central government aided and private schools in the state except in the hilly areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts will be closed for a week from April 17.” Will remain or till further orders”.

The maximum temperature in the city and its surrounding areas on Monday was recorded at 33.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal for the day.

The minimum temperature was recorded one degree below normal at 25.7 degrees.

During the heat wave conditions, the maximum temperature in the city and neighborhood was recorded around 40 degrees Celsius, while other parts of South Bengal recorded maximum temperatures ranging between 37 degrees to 44 degrees.
