Actor Chandan Anand talks about his experience working on the Netflix show Class. The actor opened up about a casting couch incident that he survived.

Actor Chandan K Anand is best known for his roles and projects in TV shows like Durga Aur Charu, Barrister Babu, Ali Baba Dastaan-e-Kabul, Meet, Jhansi Ki Rani, Yeh Pyaar Na Hoga Kum. Chandan has proved his acting prowess in films like Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, The Body, Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal and Rangbaaz. The actor is currently seen in a pivotal role in Netflix ShowClass is a remake of the Spanish hit series Elite. Helmed by director Ashim Ahluwalia, that series started streaming on 2 February on the OTT platform.

In a conversation with News18 Showsha, Chandan talked about his role and the experience of being associated with the show, which is getting a lot of appreciation. The actor also spoke about a casting couch experience in the 18 years he spent in the industry.

When asked about the experience of working in Class, Chandan shared, “It was wonderful working under the direction of Ashim Ahluwalia sir. When the directing team knows that the actors need to be handled delicately as they bring life to the written characters, it requires patience and the right environment, which was provided to all of us on the sets of Class. That’s why the show looks so fitting and classy.”

Talking about his role in the Netflix series, the actor said, “I am playing the role of Suraj Ahuja, a renowned builder and business tycoon living in New Delhi. He is politically connected and it is his school, Hampton International, where the show ‘Class’ is set. My own daughter is murdered during the course of the show, and the entire series is about uncovering the mystery of who killed her. Also, I share a special bond with my daughter Suhani Ahuja.”

The actor has been associated with the industry for 18 years. When asked about his thoughts on casting couch, Chandan recalls, “Speak compromise first, I have met 1 coordinator in my entire career. She said – Tumhi pata hai na samjhauta karna patta hai?” (You know you have to compromise?” I said – what is this. Asked me to share my photo with him. And I went to that coordinator’s office Ran away. So, it should be there. I think people with hidden agenda are all over the world. In his journey in the industry, the actor has featured in several hit TV shows, films and OTT shows as well. When asked which of these 3 mediums he finds more difficult to work in, Chandan replied, “TV is the most difficult because you don’t get time to prepare, relax and think. And you are performing emotionally for 12 hours straight, scene after scene. With so much work, you also learn. It can be a great learning medium for any actor.”

Chandan also acted in Janhvi Kapoor starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. When asked about his experience working with Jhanvi Kapoor, he said, “It was really great working with Jhanvi. Even though she is the daughter of veteran actress Sridevi, she had no airs about it. She was very warm and polite. She was cordial and really hardworking. I am very impressed with her hard work and dedication towards playing her role and in 2 years she has become a star.”

When asked about his journey and struggle before joining showbiz, Chandan said, “I have removed the word struggle from the dictionary of my life, it feels like a loser. So you can say – yes there were difficult times but I have a mindset which says life is now and every moment is beautiful. I was gifted with this mindset and with it I came to Mumbai in 2004 with Rs 2000 in cash and a dream in my heart, bought a train ticket for Rs 425, got down at Borivali, took another local train and reached Goregaon East in an hour, where I was a college senior. Home. He was working as a scheduler in UTV’s Doordarshan show. I stayed in a room with 8 guys, the rest is history. Today I have my own house in Mumbai. I am blessed.”
