Banerjee termed the allegations leveled against her as “baseless”. He also announced that the Nobel laureate would be provided with ‘Z plus’ category security in future.

Visva-Bharati, West Bengal Chief Minister amid allegations of “unauthorized possession” against Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen Mamata Banerjee handed over the land documents to him on Monday, stating that “no one can inquire from him” in future.

Banerjee today met Amartya Sen at his Santiniketan residence, where she handed over the land documents to him. Recently, a notice was sent to Sen by Visva Bharati that he is encroaching on some decibel land of the university. The VC also remarked that Sen is not a Nobel laureate. Today, the minister met Sen and said that the claim that he is living in Visva Bharati land is false. He handed over the papers to him and he said that the VC has defamed the Nobel laureate.

Banerjee termed the allegations leveled against her as baseless. He also announced that the Nobel laureate would be provided with ‘Z plus’ category security in future. The allegations of land grab against him (Amartya Sen) are baseless. This is an attempt to tarnish his reputation. No one has the right to insult him. We will not tolerate this,” said Banerjee as the economist sat next to her.

“I respect Visva-Bharati, but condemn the efforts to saffronize the holy institution,” she said. Visva-Bharati, in a letter last week, asked Sen to immediately hand over parts of the plot allegedly occupied by him in an “unauthorised manner” at Santiniketan.

Earlier, a A section of Visva Bharati University students claimed They had sought quashing of the suspension orders passed on seven students on disciplinary grounds, forcing the closure of the institute. The students also demanded revocation of the decision to sack senior faculty member and economics professor Sudipta Bhattacharya.

Vishva Bharati SFI leader Somnath So, on behalf of the protesting students, said that the university has been closed due to Monday’s agitation and they will continue to protest until the undemocratic act of suspending classmates and sacking Professor Bhattacharya is stopped goes.
