UPSC had announced the facility of withdrawal of applications by the candidates in 2018 after it was found that out of over 10 lakh candidates who filled the application form for the preliminary examination, only about 50 per cent actually take the exam.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has said that candidates for the Civil Services Examination will not be able to withdraw their applications after they have been submitted.

UPSC had announced the facility of withdrawal of applications by the candidates in 2018 after it was found that out of over 10 lakh candidates who filled the application form for the preliminary examination, only about 50 per cent actually take the exam.

A recent notification released by UPSC states, “Candidates will not be allowed to withdraw their applications after they have been submitted.”

Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2023 will be held on 28 May.

The prestigious exam is conducted in three stages – preliminary, mains and interview – to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service and Indian Police Service.

As per the notification, the number of vacancies to be filled through the exam is expected to be around 1,105, including 37 vacancies reserved for persons with benchmark disability category, i.e., seven vacancies for candidates with blindness and low vision; five for deaf and hard of hearing and 15 for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy among others, the final number of vacancies after receiving the fixed number of vacancies from the cadre controlling authorities Can change, it said.

UPSC had announced to fill 861 vacant posts through Civil Services Examination 2022.

It will also conduct recruitment for Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) through Civil Services Exam 2023.

Candidates can apply online for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination through the website www.upsconline.nic.in. Online applications can be filled till 21 February 2023 till 6 PM.

“The Commission has also decided to extend the facility of making corrections in any field in the Application Form for this Examination from the day following the closure of the application window for this Examination. This window will be valid from the date of its opening i.e. 22.02.2023 Will remain open for seven days from 07.02.2023 to 28.02.2023.

The notification states that the government strives to have a workforce that reflects gender balance and women candidates are encouraged to apply.
