Civil Services aspirants want OCS Prelims to be rescheduled. Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: The candidates preparing for the Civil Services Examinations have urged the Odisha Public Service Commission to (OPSC) to reschedule the date of Odisha Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations-2020 which clash with some other examinations at state and national level.
The Preliminary Examination of OCS will be held on August 27, while Odisha Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test (OSSTET) will also be held on the same date. Similarly, the IAS interview will start from Monday and will go on till September 22. Many Civil Services aspirants are preparing for their interview in Delhi, so they may face difficulties in appearing for OCS Preliminary Exam in Odisha.
One of the candidates said that the dates of Civil Services Examination (CSE)-2020 are conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and OCS exams should not clash with each other. He said that usually the states follow this for the interest of civil service aspirants.
Multiple candidates have been selected for OCS-2020 UPSC CSE-2020 Interview To be in Delhi. “If we choose UPSC interview, we cannot appear in OCS-2020 exam in Odisha. We are preparing for the interview right now and after appearing for the exam in Odisha during this covid time it will be difficult for us to go back to Delhi. If I fall ill because of this trip, it will create problems in my preparation. Hence, OPSC should reschedule the preliminary exam to a later date after the IAS interview is over,” said the aspirant.
Generally, competitive exams like civil services are conducted on Sundays or public holidays so that applicants, who are in service, can arrange time to appear for the exam. But the OCS-2020 preliminary exam is scheduled to be held on a working day, another candidate said.
Candidates said that OPSC should publish the results of OCS-2019 (Main) examination held in January this year. “If the Commission is concerned to conduct the OCS-2020 Preliminary Examination, it should show the same concern for the OCS-2019 examinations as well. It should have issued notification for OCS-2020 examinations after publishing the results of previous year examinations,” he said.
Candidates have written to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra and OPSC Chairman Satyajit Mohanty to consider their request to reschedule the preliminary exam date.
An OPSC official said that they have received petitions from candidates regarding the issue. “We had planned to conduct the preliminary exam in May, but we had to reschedule it to August 27 due to Covid. If we do not conduct exams this month, we may face problem after the rise in the cases of Covid,” he said.
