Gurgaon: Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) resumed bus service on its Route 116 between Rajesh Pilot Chowk on Tuesday Golf Course Road Extension and Daulatabad on Dwarka Expressway. A senior GMCBL official confirmed that the two buses have started plying on their route 116 – at a distance of 16.7 km at Rajesh Pilot Chowk, Hong Kong Market, Wazirabad, HUDA City Center Metro Station, Sector 29, Government Girls. There will be at least 10 stops. Colleges in Sector 14, Mahavir Chowk, Bhim Nagar, Laxman Vihar and Daulatabad.
“We had to stop operations on the route as it was witnessing very little footfall. However, in the last few days, residents of Dwarka Expressway area have approached us and requested that bus services be planned in their area as lockdown restrictions are lifted and movement has increased in the last few months. Keeping this need in mind, bus service on Route 116 has been resumed from Tuesday. “We have started operations with two buses initially and based on the number of people a decision will be taken on increasing the number of vehicles.”
On Tuesday, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sudhir Rajpal said that the bus service on Route 135B will start from Wednesday. Buses on the route will ply between Iris Broadway Mall in Sector 85 and IFFCO Chowk metro station, official sources said. Earlier this route used to start from Sector 90.
Local residents have welcomed the decision of GMCBL to resume bus services on the two routes. However, some residents said that GMDA should consider expanding services to cater to other newly developed areas as well. Atul Nagpal, a resident of M3M Woodshire in Sector 107, told TOI, “Before the pandemic, buses on Route 116 used to run till Sector 106. More than 1,000 families are living in various housing societies in the sector apart from the surrounding villages. While these areas have been developed in the last 6-7 years, connectivity is still an issue for us.”
Praveen Malik, vice-president, United Association of New Gurugram, said that the GMCBL should conduct a proper survey in Sector 77-95 to find out the feasibility of adding new routes. Meanwhile, Pataudi MLA Satya Prakash Jravata said that all efforts are being made to promote public transport in the area in view of the increasing pollution. “I have taken up the issue with the GMDA for starting six new bus routes, which will provide better connectivity to the rest of the city from Pataudi to Farrukhnagar. For now, I’m glad they’ve agreed to start Route 135B from Wednesday. According to sources, two buses will ply on the route starting from Iris Broadway Mall in Bada Gaon.
