West Bengal CID officials visited BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s house in Contai on Wednesday in connection with the investigation into the death of his security personnel nearly three years ago. A senior official gave this information.

Besides this, while talking to the two security personnel, who was a former aide of the officer’s former bodyguard Subhabrata Chakraborty and still posted there, the CID officials also spoke to Dibyendu Adhikari, the younger brother of the BJP leader, they said.

The officer’s personal security guard shot himself in 2018

The officer’s personal security guard had allegedly shot himself with his service revolver in 2018 at a police barrack at Kanthi in Purba Medinipur district.

Earlier in the morning, the CID officials went to the Contai police station and took stock of the documents related to the investigation done by the police in the case.

“We have also collected some necessary documents regarding the investigation from the Contai police station. We have also discussed with the police officials there and got their opinion about the matter,” the officer said.

The officials also visited the barracks where Chakraborty shot himself with his service revolver in October 2018.

Suparna Chakraborty, wife of security personnel, files new complaint to investigate husband’s death

The security guard’s wife Suparna Chakraborty had lodged a fresh complaint with the Contai police station demanding an inquiry into the husband’s death.

Chakraborty, who was from the state armed police, was part of the officer security team as he was an MP and remained in the team even after he became a minister in the Mamata Banerjee government in 2015.

When the matter was reopened, a war of words broke out between the rival BJP and the TMC.

BJP’s reaction

Referring to the CID team’s visit to the officer’s residence, BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya told reporters in Kolkata, “We wonder why the matter was raised after two and a half years?

“Suvendu Adhikari was a powerful minister in the Mamata Banerjee cabinet when the incident happened. Now that he has defeated the Chief Minister from Nandigram by leaving the Trinamool Congress and joining the BJP, all these things- registering an FIR and visiting the CID team.

Bhattacharya said, “We think there is a deep conspiracy behind this. It is part of vendetta politics.”

Trinamool Congress MLA from Mahisdal and cousin of the deceased bodyguard Tilak Chakraborty said, “Why was the death passed out as a suspected case of suicide? We want the truth to come out.”

Suvendu Adhikari’s younger brother and MP Dibyendu Adhikari said, “I think there is a deeper conspiracy behind digging up the case which is more than two years old. But, we are not afraid of any investigation.
