Christian Bale is all set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thor: Love and Thunder. He previously starred in DC’s Dark Knight trilogy and played the caped crusader, Batman. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie is one of the most awaited movies for all the Marvel fans. Not only does the film bring back Chris Hemsworth as Thor, but we’ll also see Natalie Portman and Chris Pratt. This year, Christian is also debuting with the franchise as the antagonist, Gore, the God of Butcher. But the Oscar-winning actor had no idea about the MCU while he signed on for the film.
In a recent interview with Total Film, Christian admitted that he didn’t know anything about it until last year when he signed the Taika Waititi directorial. When asked if the actor had any issues playing another comic-book movie role after Batman, Bell immediately brushed off the speculation.
“I would read, and people would go, ‘Oh, look at this! He’s entered the MCU!’ And I’ll go, ‘What have I done? I haven’t entered the mess, thank you very much.’ I’m like, ‘MCU?’ I had to ask what that was, ”said Christian.
The comic character Gore, played by Christian in the upcoming MCU film, has almost no clothes in the original comic books, and this worried him. The actor started second guessing the role. “You kind of go, ‘I know what he does.’ It’s right there in the name, isn’t it? But I made the mistake of googling it and oh no! [In the comics] He runs in the G-string all the time,” quipped Christian.
He felt that he was not the right person for the role. Luckily Taika spoke out all her second thoughts and convinced the actor. “And then Taika quickly shrugged off any notion of him running around in it. But I always wondered what he could do with it in front of a bluescreen — he could chuck on whatever he wanted afterwards,” Christian said.
Thor: Love and Thunder is all set to hit the theaters on July 7 in India, a day before its global release.
