International Women’s Day was celebrated all over the world on 8 March. The day highlights the issues of women as well as raises awareness for their rights. On this occasion, many celebrities shared a special post on social media. One such post was from Tamil lyricist-poet Vairamuthu. She tweeted a poem which highlights that in Tamil culture women will always be superior to men in every field. He also wrote that the mother is the first teacher of the child. Vairamuthu also tweeted a picture with the respected women dignitaries from an event. A closer look reveals the banner of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party. Looks like Vairamuthu was clicked at a book function along with other guests.

Social media users were full of praise for the famous lyricist and his commendable work. He appreciated how brilliantly she conveyed the essence of women’s rights and empowerment. One user tweeted that men are yet to raise their voice in favor of women on a large scale.

Another fan lauded Vairamuthu for inspiring women to participate in book festivals. According to a user, these intellectual gatherings are the best and that too on the occasion of Women’s Day.

Although not everyone was worthy of praise. After reading Vairamuthu’s poem on Women’s Day, Tamil singer Chinmayi Sripada mocked him in one of her tweets. Vairamuthu was accused of sexual harassment by Chinmayi in 2018.

Chinmayi was initially apprehensive about disclosing the name of the person who tried to make unwanted advances towards her. She later revealed that the culprit was Vairamuthu, who allegedly made lewd acts towards her during a recording session. She also accused him of retaliating by blacklisting her from the industry. She claimed that several other women were also harassed by Vairamuthu, but were afraid to speak up.

After this disclosure of Chinmayi, many other women of the industry also demanded action against Vairamuthu.

Vairamuthu is yet to respond to Chinmayi’s tweet.
