Chinese President Xi Jinping said, China is ready to work with America

New Delhi: Beijing says it is ready to bridge the gap between the US and China. According to a Bloomberg report, US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a virtual summit next week. The exact date of the summit has not been announced yet.

During the dinner of the National Committee on US-China Relations held in Washington, China’s Ambassador to the US Qin Gang read out a letter. In the letter, Xi said Beijing was ready to work with the US on regional and global issues.

Even at the COP 26 summit, the US and China have announced to come together on the issue of climate in this decade. As Bloomberg reports, the two countries agreed to ensure their emissions cut by tackling methane and deforestation.

Speaking at various press conferences, China’s special climate envoy Xie Zhenhua said, “We need to work actively to address climate change.” While his US counterpart John Kerry said, “There is no shortage of differences between the US and China, but climate cooperation is the only way to get this work done.”

The meeting is seen as an important one as both the countries were under geopolitical tensions. The origin of the Kovid-19 pandemic, the expansion of China’s nuclear arsenal are some of the major reasons behind the bitter relations between the two countries. Another reason is that the US is backing the island nation of Taiwan, which China claims.

Biden had criticized Xi for being absent on the global stage. Xi Jinping has not left his country for the last 21 months. He neither attended the G20 summit held in October nor the COP 26 summit in Glasgow.

“The fact that China, as a world leader, is trying to emphasize a new role in the world – is not visible? Come on,” criticized Biden in Glasgow.
