China’s display giant BOE intends to supply panels for iPhone 15 Pro models

New Delhi: China’s largest display maker BOE intends to manufacture OLED panels for the high-end models of the iPhone 15 lineup, media have reported. The China-based display giant currently manufactures panels for the baseline iPhone 13. High-end displays that require more advanced technology are being produced by Samsung.

Beijing, China-headquartered BOE intends to expand its capacity to manufacture OLED LTPO displays that enable a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, timed for the iPhone 15 Pro, expected to be unveiled in 2023. It is, according to a report published in Elek. For this year’s iPhone 14 lineup that is likely to launch this fall, BOE will supply displays for the baseline model only while the Pro series models will rely on Samsung and LG.

For the 6.68-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple will buy OLED panels from Samsung Display and LG Display. Cupertino is planning to introduce hole-display technology on the Pro lineup of the iPhone 14 series. BOE is aggressively expanding its stake in Apple’s OLED panel supply chain against South Korean rivals Samsung Display and LG Display, the report said.

Apple, for the first time since the launch of the iPhone X, is likely to introduce a design overhaul to the display on the higher-end iPhone 14 models, which are likely to launch this fall and include the removal of the notch. The notch at the top of the display can be replaced with a hole punch and a pill-shaped cutout.

Meanwhile, some leaks and rumors have surfaced regarding the alleged iPhone SE 2022 edition and now, the next iteration in the “affordable” iPhone SE lineup, the iPhone SE 3 is likely to launch in April. According to a previous report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg news agency, the upcoming iPhone SE 3 will be unveiled at the iPhone maker’s next virtual launch event which is likely to take place in March or April this year.
