Chicago banker convicted of bribing Paul Manafort

NEW YORK – A federal jury in Manhattan indicted the former head of a Chicago bank on charges of approving a risky loan worth millions of dollars to Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, in an attempt to gain the top post in the Trump administration. .

A spokesman for the US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan confirmed that Stephen Kall, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Federal Savings Bank, was indicted Tuesday for financial institution bribery and conspiracy.

Prosecutors had said that Calc helped arrange a $16 million loan to Manafort that later went into default.

Kalk is to be sentenced on January 10, 2022.

Manafort was convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud and sentenced to 7-1/2 years in prison, but was later imprisoned in the house. Trump then pardoned Manafort in December.
