Petrol and diesel prices in India held steady again on September 2 as per the latest price notification issued by Oil Marketing Companies. On May 21, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an excise duty cut on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre respectively. After that, the Maharashtra government had announced a Value-Added Tax (VAT) cut on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and Rs 3 per litre on diesel on July 15, 2022. The VAT cut will cost Maharashtra’s state exchequer Rs 6,000 crore per annum.
Petrol price in Delhi today is Rs 96.72 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 89.62 per litre in Delhi. In Mumbai, petrol price stands at Rs 106.31 per litre and diesel is retailed at Rs 94.27 per litre. Petrol price in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 92.76 a litre. Petrol and diesel in Chennai are priced at Rs 102.63 per litre and Rs 94.24 per litre respectively.

Oil Marketing Companies, such as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) have not increased the petrol and diesel prices for over five months now despite increasing oil prices.
Commercial LPG cylinder rates were slashed today by Rs 91.50. For today a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder will cost Rs 1,885, instead of Rs 1,976 in Delhi.
