‘Cheap politics’: Maha AIMIM MP slams Uddhav for renaming Aurangabad

New Delhi: AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel on Wednesday (June 29, 2022) criticized the decision of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government. rename Aurangabad city as Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv, and said that they are setting a great example of “cheap politics”. “Aurangabad has its own history and no one can erase it,” he said and alleged that the name of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was used by MVA leaders to take political advantage.

“The ball is now in the court of the central government. We will explore all options against this decision and we can also take to the streets,” he told reporters in the evening.

Taking a jibe at Uddhav Thackeray, Resigned as Chief Minister of Maharashtra after a week long drama of resort politicsJaleel said, “The time has come to spit on Congress and NCP leaders. We respect the chief minister but he (from the government) would have been better off. A few days ago, the Chief Minister had said that before changing the name of the government, develop Aurangabad. What’s the development?”

Chatrapati Sambhaji, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was tortured to death on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb’s tomb is located in Aurangabad.

Alleging that Chhatrapati Sambhaji’s name was being used for political gains, Jalil questioned the approval of the proposal to rename Aurangabad on the day the MVA government was about to lose power. He was apparently referring to the floor test directed by the Governor of Maharashtra on Thursday.
