ChatGPT Just Showed Google A New Way To Get Richer

Let’s be direct Everything we’ve seen or heard about ChatGPT doesn’t even scratch the surface. No, tech companies aren’t investing billions of dollars just to create memes or help you plan your dinner party for free.

If you follow the money trail you can realize why Google and Microsoft, in particular, are rushing to embrace generative AI or ChatGPT-like bots.

The answer is simple. Tech companies have found a new business model that is not based on advertisements. Very soon, you may have to pay to find information on the Internet. Sadly, most internet users rely on Google and Microsoft to search.

Remember how cloud storages such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, iCloud and others were presented to us? Tech companies said, hey cloud is cool, google drive, photos, upload everything to iCloud..it’s all free..

A decade later, we have smartphones with stunning 200-megapixel cameras that deliver photos with file sizes of around 20MB. But your free iCloud or Google Drive storage is still 5GB or 15GB. You are actually expected to pay Google, Apple and others to store your own photos and email.

Of course, if you’re okay with the frustrating experience of juggling hard drives and multiple Google accounts, you can choose not to pay.

It’s simple, search may no longer be free in the near future. Or, just to sound politically correct, generative AI-based search engines would be somewhat freer.

Google processes about 9 billion search queries per day. 9 billion. 9 billion things are searched for free on Google every day. Of that 9 billion searches if Google can monetize even 1% every day… Google might actually be able to buy Europe outright.

This was just the trailer for when we were all supporting ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is not the only generative AI bot available in the market. Just because you’ve only heard of ChatGPT doesn’t mean the world ends with ChatGPT. There are already many alternatives available for ChatGPT. And not just generative AI for text search… there are already AI platforms that can generate images and videos as well.

If you want your pet dog to talk like Brian from The Family Guy, you can have that too, if you pay. Or, if you want to build a game or app, just ask the bot the right questions. It has everything you can imagine, what you want and how much you are willing to pay.

Companies such as Google, Microsoft and others will introduce a freemium model for their search engines over the next few years. While typical ad-driven Google search or Microsoft Bing will most likely remain free, you may have to pay to use generative AI-based search. And if you look at the subscription page of ChatGPT the signs are already visible.

So, here’s a theory on how Google, Microsoft and others might charge you to search for information on their platforms.

Of course, you’ll be given some free credits to start with. Say for example, Google gives $15 worth of credits for free to everyone to start using Generative AI-based Google Search

Now, as soon as you ask a question to this bot, Google will recognize how much computing power or FLOPS will be required to answer your question.

Obviously, the computing power required to answer questions like “will it rain tomorrow” and “write a JavaScript function to print the hashed password” will not be the same.

Some answers may cost you a few cents while other more complex answers may cost you a lot.

Now, as soon as you’ve used up your $15 worth of free credits, you’ll be asked to pay to continue. And if you’re used to getting answers right away without doing your own research or study, chances are you’ll end up paying Google.

ChatGPT is just bait. We all get excited when big tech companies find a way to make money online without relying on ads. But if you look at the bigger picture, Google or its parent Alphabet has an eye on profits and people love ChatGPT, so, it’s mutual.

Our parents never expected us to pay for services like Google Photos to store photos. Or, they don’t understand why kids are willing to pay real money to buy a virtual assault rifle in a game like PUBG.

Likewise, prepare yourselves, in the future our kids may be paying for online content on Google!

So, AI will not take away jobs but it will certainly change jobs.

For starters, to get a high paying job, hone your skills so that you are able to make predictions and answer questions for AI platforms.
