Former Punjab CM Charanjit Channi suddenly reached Delhi on Thursday. Here he met Rahul Gandhi. This was Channi’s first meeting with Rahul Gandhi after the humiliating defeat in the Punjab elections. Channi may be made the new chief of Congress in Punjab. Till now the Congress President has not been appointed in the state. Channi, however, said that he is not in the race for any position and neither does he want the post. He will continue to serve the Congress party.
On the other hand, Channi also took a jibe at the people who won the Aam Aadmi Party. When he was asked a question on the continuous killings in Punjab, he said that if people wanted change, they got change. He said that now the new government of Punjab should pay attention to this.
Channi could not show miracle in elections
Congress had played full bet on Charanjit Channi in Punjab. He was made the CM after the removal of Captain Amarinder Singh. For this, Sunil Jakhar, Sukhjinder Randhawa and Navjot Sidhu were sidelined. After this the election was contested on Channi’s tenure of 111 days. Rahul Gandhi made Channi the CM face. Despite this, it was reduced to 18 seats. Channi himself lost the election from Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur seats.
We ran a strong government in 111 days
Charanjit Channi said that it was a formal meeting. I did not meet Rahul Gandhi after the election. He said that we ran a strong government in Punjab in 111 days. At that time it was election time. The workers were also on strike. Despite this, we kept the law and order situation completely under control.
Objected to Jakhar’s statement
Charanjit Channi also objected to Sunil Jakhar’s statement. Channi said that Jakhar is rich but his thinking and mentality are bad. He talked about keeping the poor and downtrodden on the tip of the shoe, this is absolutely wrong.
