Chandraprakash Dwivedi on winning Padma Shri: I dedicate this award to my country. Unique

Filmmaker and actor Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who started his career with the prestigious teleseries Chanakya, has been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award by the Government of India. Talking about receiving the honour, he says, “I got a call from the home ministry on Tuesday morning. This is the moment of the great journey. I am extremely grateful to have been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award. I have had the privilege of collaborating creatively with some of the best minds in the Hindi film and television industry. They have enriched me, pushed my limits and made me creatively better. I share this great moment of my life with all the people who have shaped me and my thinking.”

A qualified physician, Dr. Dwivedi decided to become a film producer after practicing as a doctor for a few months. Looking back on his journey, he says, “I started shooting for the pilot episode of Chanakya in 1988. It has been an exciting, fulfilling and learning experience. There was a time when many people advised me to stop exploring the subject of Indian period drama and make commercial cinema. But I always felt that we need to educate the new generation about our history. I stood by my faith and today I feel I was not wrong in doing what I wanted to do.”

Dwivedi says that over the years many filmmakers have started making period dramas, which is a good sign. “30 years ago if I had told someone that I wanted to make a film on Mahabharata or Ramayana, people would have laughed. But today so many top directors are exploring this subject. I am glad that I have seen this change in my lifetime.”

The filmmakers are extremely happy with this honor and dedicate this honor to their motherland India. He says, “I have always been someone who has tried to tell a story steeped in the history and culture of our country and I dedicate this award to my country. This recognition inspired me to tell those stories. Celebrate my motherland with full glory like my next Prithviraj in which we will honor the valor of one of the bravest warriors India has ever seen.I have the opportunity to play Prithviraj on screen with a big actor like Akshay Kumar The opportunity has come and I hope my countrymen will like the film which we have made with a lot of passion.”

In his limited filmography, the filmmaker has produced another Mahabharat, critically acclaimed films Pinjar, Upanishad Ganga, Z Plus and Mohalla Assi. The filmmaker is all set to release his much-awaited period drama Prithviraj, which is produced by Yash Raj Films and is based on the life and valor of the fearless and mighty king Prithviraj Chauhan. Starring Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar, the film was scheduled to release on January 21 but has been delayed due to the new wave of Covid-19 in the country.

Giving an update on the new release date for Prithviraj, he says, “I am meeting Aditya Chopra tomorrow and we have to find out a date. It is an expensive film and we need a good date and he will decide on it.” You will probably announce a new date here within this week.”
