New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner (Check, Sushil Chandra said on Thursday that in political parties Uttar Pradesh Met the Election Commission and urged that the assembly elections should be held on time.
Addressing the media after a three-day visit to the polling booth in Uttar Pradesh to review the preparedness, Chandra He said that there would be no delay in the upcoming elections.
CEC Chandra said in the press conference, “Representatives of all political parties met us and told us that the elections should be conducted on time following all the COVID-19 protocols.”
Elections are to be held for the Legislative Assemblies of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur next year.
The CEC said the final list of voters would be released on January 5 and polling would be held from 8 am to 6 pm on the date of polling. Polling period in UP elections will be extended by one hour to ensure social distancing for COVID-19.
VVPATs will be installed at all polling stations. Live webcasting facility will be available at around 1 lakh polling stations to ensure transparency in the election process.
The poll panel is expected to announce the schedule for next year’s elections in the first week of January.
“People above 80 years of age, persons with disabilities and COVID affected people who are unable to come to the polling booth, the Election Commission will reach their doorsteps,” the CEC said.
On Monday, the ECI held a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Health in Delhi regarding the increase in the number of omicron cases.
