Chandigarh: About 300 more e-bike Have reached for the public bike sharing project in the city. A total of 1,250 cycles are to be reached in the second phase of the project, which ends on October 31.
The work of installing the batteries at the docking stations has started. The charging of all the cycles will be monitored by a command and control center through a single application.
“The timing of the second phase is till the end of October, but can be extended by two more months at the request of the company. However, our priority is to bring all the cycles on time. The executives are in constant touch with the company management and their employees and are taking daily feedback.
Earlier, the company had to pick up the bicycles from the docking station for charging. Now with the installation of the charging station, the cycle will be charged at the docking station point itself. “Charging will be monitored through the app only. Other aspects will be managed through a dedicated command and control centre,” said an official.
As per rough estimates, more than 90,000 people have registered themselves under this project. “The public response to the project is immense. People are coming forward daily to avail this facility.
20 rupees for one hour cycle ride
The cycle charge is Rs 20 for one hour and Rs 10 for half an hour. The charges are the same for both the battery-powered bicycle and the manual cycle. The authority has various modes of payment.
A total of 5,000 cycles will be provided with a network of 617 docking stations spread across the city, providing end-to-end connectivity to the users. According to officials, this size of the project will make it India’s largest and most dense public bike sharing network. The project will be developed in four phases which will feature pedal-assisted ebikes along with charging facility at docking stations.
