Chandigarh University boxers Vishal and Khushi won gold medals for the country in C. The championship was held in Dubai from 17 to 31 August 2021. Both the boxers gave a tough fight to their opponents in the Asian Youth Boxing Championships with effective defense techniques and superb footwork.
Hailing from Patiala district of Punjab, Khushi is a second year student of BA Sports at Chandigarh University. In her final match at the championship, Khushi won the gold medal in the 75 kg weight category by defeating Dana Dide of Kazakhstan 3–0.
“I am a huge Mary Kom fan and want to represent India at the Olympics-2024 in Paris. I am focusing on my training and workouts so that I can compete at the international level.”
Vishal Walia, a BA sports student at the university, started his campaign in the championship with a dominating performance against the Kazakhstani boxer and made it to the finals after beating him 5–0 in the final. Playing in the final, Vishal made an impressive performance with his precise and sharp punches against Akhmatov Sanzar of Kyrgyzstan in the 80 kg weight category and registered an easy victory after beating the final score 5-0.
Dedicating the gold medal to the nation, Vishal Walia said, “This is the biggest moment of my career, and I am grateful to my coach and my university who is providing me moral and financial support in the form of scholarships so that I can focus. I can. My game.”
