CHANDIGARH: The Union Territory Administration has decided to go for a new mobility scheme for Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) as the authorities. Rail India Technical and Economic Services (Rights) reported on Monday that the 2009 plan could not be updated Center New guidelines have been issued.
RITES officials during a meeting with UT Advisor Dharam Pali Said this on Monday, a senior UT official said.
The administration had scheduled a meeting with RITES officials to solve the city’s urban transport problem. Pal presided over the meeting and officials of the Transport Department were also present.
Recently, PAL had called a meeting and discussed options for Metro, Monorail and Skybus. He had directed the officials of the Transport Department to update the study of RITES 2009. Many things have changed on the ground like traffic volume, vehicular entry in the city, congestion on many routes.
Pal said, “The mobility plan which was prepared in 2009 is out of date and cannot be used now. Since the new guidelines have come, a mobility plan will have to be prepared afresh. I have now asked the officials to check whether we can go ahead with the nomination process or the tender process for selection of the agency to prepare the mobility plan. We will have a standalone mobility plan for Chandigarh, which can be further integrated with the transport system of the tricity. It will take a month to finalize the agency.
