Chaitra Navratri 2023, Day 4: Goddess Kushmanda is worshiped on the fourth day of Navratri. The Hindu festival of Navratri celebrates the nine avatars of Maa Durga for nine different nights. People worship nine different goddesses, fast and seek blessings. This year Chaitra Navratri is starting from 22 March and will end with Ram Navami on 30 March. The name Kushmanda derives from three Sanskrit words: ku meaning “little”, ushma meaning “heat”, and anda meaning “cosmic egg”. Hindu legend states that Maa Kushmanda created a tiny cosmic egg to create the universe that led to the explosion of the universe.

Goddess Kushmanda rides a lioness and has eight hands; Hence, he is also known as Ashtabhuja. She holds a kamandalu, a dhanush baan (bow and arrow), and a kamal (lotus) in her right hand. While in his left hand he holds Amrit Kalash, Japa Mala, Gada and Chakra. Hindu mythology believes that Maa Kushmanda is the ultimate source of energy and light, which is also provided by the Sun. This Maa Durga form is known as Adi Shakti.

Maa Kushmanda is the goddess of the Anahata Chakra (heart chakra), and the color of her aura is green. Those who struggle with fear, depression, anxiety and nervousness should worship Maa Kushmanda with true heart and dedication. They should also recite Durga Saptshati to please Maa Durga and seek her blessings.

Goddess Kushmanda: Puja Vidhi

Get up early, take a bath and clean the house. Light a lamp of desi ghee and offer yellow colored flowers and sweets. Offer betel leaves, betel nut, cloves, cardamom and five different fruits to the goddess. Recite Durga Chalisa and Saptshati. This puja is especially auspicious for unmarried women in the hope of finding an ideal husband.
