CES 2022: Fossil announces Amazon Alexa assistant, to be added to its smartwatches soon

New Delhi: Fossil has announced that it will be adding Amazon Alexa to its Gen 6 smartwatch. Announcing it at CES 2022 in Las Vegas, the company also mentioned that the Alexa addition will happen “soon”. The company also unveiled the Skagen Falster Gen 6 and Fossil x Razer smartwatches at CES.

According to a report published in 9to5Google, Fossil has mentioned in a statement that the Alexa app will be available for its smartwatches during the first half of this year. Initially, the Alexa app feature will only work on Fossil’s latest Gen 6 smartwatches including the Fossil Gen 6, Skagen Falster Gen 6 and Fossil X Razer Watch. However, the company did not clarify whether this feature will be rolled out to older smartwatches.

Adding smart assistants to smartwatches is becoming increasingly common for brands, thanks to the usefulness they offer. However, buyers cannot choose which voice assistant their smartwatch is equipped with. Currently, Apple Watches are equipped with Siri-only and Wear OS watches are currently connected to Google Assistant-only. When it comes to Samsung, it likes to add its proprietary subsidiary Bixby to the Galaxy Watch lineup.

Meanwhile, the two smartwatches launched at CES 2022 are the Razer X Fossil Gen 6 that will retail for $329 or around Rs 24,500. It will be available from January 10 on the company’s website, Razer’s website, GameStop and select retail stores. According to Fossil, the Razr will be limited to just 1,337 units and will be available in a black case with a black and green 22mm silicone strap.

The second smartwatch launched is the Skagen Falster Gen 6 which is priced at $295 or approximately Rs 21,900 and is available on the company’s official website. It is available in five color options: Charcoal, Espresso, Black, Rose Gold and Silver.
