Centre’s fiscal deficit touches 58.9% of full year target at end-January – Times of India

New Delhi: Central Govt. Fiscal deficit Worked on 58.9 per cent of the 2021-22 annual budget target at the end of January, according to official data released on Monday.
The fiscal deficit stood at 66.8 per cent of the Revised Estimates (RE) for 2020-21 during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
In real terms, the deficit stood at Rs 9,37,868 crore at the end of January 2022 as against the revised annual estimate of Rs 15.91 lakh crore, according to data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA).
The country’s fiscal deficit – the difference between the government’s total revenue and total expenditure – is projected to exceed 6.9 per cent in this financial year ending March 2022, as against 6.8 per cent estimated earlier.
The government’s total receipts at the end of January stood at Rs 18.71 lakh crore or 85.9 per cent of the Revised Estimates (RE) for 2021-22. The collection was around 80 per cent of the revised estimate for 2020-21 in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Tax (net) revenue so far stood at 87.7 per cent of the RE for 2021-22. This was 82 per cent of RE 2020-21 in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. In actual terms, the net tax revenue during April-January 2021-22 stood at Rs 15.47 lakh crore.
The CGA data further said that the total expenditure of the central government at the end of January was Rs 28.09 lakh crore or 74.5 per cent of this year’s revised estimate. It was 73 per cent of the revised estimate for the same period.
The government’s fiscal deficit for 2022-23 is estimated at Rs 16,61,196 crore. The revised estimate for 2021-22 indicates a fiscal deficit of Rs 15,91,089 crore, as against the budget estimate of Rs 15,06,812 crore.
The fiscal deficit for 2020-21 stood at 9.3 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).
