Dharwad: Union minister for parliamentary affairs Pralhad Joshi said the Centre is committed to porotecting the interests of Buddists, SC/STs and backward communities and special memorials will be erected at historical places to convey the messages of Buddha and Dr B R Ambedkar.
Speaking after performing the bhoomi puja for the construction of the first floor of Dr B R Ambedkar Samudaya Pragati Samsthe at Daddi Kamalapur off Dharwad on Sunday, he said the Centre will make a theme park at a cost Rs 366 crore to propagate the philosophy of Buddha and Ambedkar. “The Union cabinet has 60% of ministers from SC/STs and backward classes and the government has earmarked Rs 59,000 crore for providing scholarship to students belonging to these communities. The government has kept Rs 60,000 crore for their empowerment,” he said. Congress leader G Parameshwara was the chief guest.

Hubballi: Congress leader G Parameshwara dared the BJP government to investigate the charge of Kempanna, president of contractors’ association, about receiving commission from the Congress. He said on Sunday that there was no substance in the allegations. “Only after investigation one can know who got the commission — BJP or Congress,” he said. “When our government comes to power, such cases will be investigated,” he said.
